*Message from artist Naoko Oyama on this exhibition

"What is the last sound you want to hear?"
We asked this question to 60 people aged between 20 and 100, and took photos of their ears.

The stories that emerge from this question exude a diverse and rich view of life and death.
And when placed alongside the photograph of an ear, "no two shapes are the same," the narration takes on a definite outline and remains in this world.

Until a few decades ago, aging and death were a part of our daily lives.
Most people end their lives at home, which was just part of their daily lives, but in modern times, the place where people end their lives has shifted to hospitals and facilities, and as a result, there are fewer opportunities to experience aging and death in their daily lives or to think deeply about them.

The "stories of life and death" of ordinary people are made public to society, and people encounter diverse views on life and death in their daily lives.
It will be an opportunity for everyone to reflect on that "moment" that will come someday, and will become the foundation for enriching and creating the time we have left.
I hope that the photo exhibition "Listening Carefully" will provide such an opportunity/place.

A photo book will also be available for purchase at this exhibition.
Along with photographs of the ears of 60 people, stories about sound are told that also consider views on life and death.

Naoko Oyama

Visiting nurse/photographer
After studying agriculture in high school, she went on to become a nurse. After working at several hospitals, he has been at Sakurashinmachi Urban Clinic since 2012. Works in the home medical department.
In addition to her work as a visiting nurse, Graduated from the Kyoto University of Art and Design Department of Fine Arts, Photography Course in 2020. He is currently enrolled in the graduate school at the same university.
To reconstruct the culture of end-of-life care that was once a part of everyday life in the modern age Initiatives such as dialogue with the elderly and views on life and death He explores the meaning of end-of-life care and creates works through photography.
