Engrace Kintsugi Jewelry Shop-Kyoto Ware and Kiyomizu Ware-

This is an experience in making SDGs accessories using Kintsugi, which is made by freely combining traditional Japanese pottery pieces and brightly colored natural stones.

We mainly purchase broken or chipped pottery, cups, and other pottery items that are no longer used, purchased from kilns around the country, and then handcrafted them one by one into ceramic shards and polished them.
Choose your favorite one-of-a-kind accessory parts with different colors, patterns, and shapes, and combine them with colorful natural stones to create your one-of-a-kind Kintsugi jewelry!

This workshop offers an experience of creating Kintsugi SDGs jewelry by freely combining traditional Japanese fragments of pottery with vibrant natural stones.

We prepare the fragments of pottery by handcrafting and polishing them from pottery craftsmen mainly from kilns all over Japan.
Fragmented pieces of cracked or chipped pottery become unique parts, each with their own colour, shape and pattern.
You can then combine it with colorful natural stones to create your own “one-of-a-kind Kintsugi jewelry.”

[What is Kintsugi? ]

It is a unique Japanese technique dating back to the Muromachi period for repairing broken ceramics.It is a traditional technique in which broken or chipped vessels are connected with lacquer, and the joints are decorated by sprinkling gold, silver, or other powder.
In the Shop, we do not use lacquer obtained from the sumac tree, but instead use synthetic lacquer (paint) that does not cause rashes and dries quickly, and gold powder (a blend of brass and pearl powder), so even beginners can feel at ease. You can participate.

[What is Kintsugi?]

“Kintsugi” is a technique unique to Japan that has been used since the Muromachi period (1336-1573) to repair and decorate broken ceramics.
It involves using lacquer (urushi) to join and bond the cracked or chipped pieces of the pottery, and then applying powdered gold, silver, or other metals to decorate the mended seams.
In our workshop, we use synthetic lacquer (a paint that is less likely to cause allergies and dries faster) and a blend of gold powder (brass and pearl powder) instead of lacquer obtained from the urushi tree.
This allows even beginners to participate with confidence.

[Shop details]

The November Shop will feature Kyoto ware and Kiyomizu ware, which are characterized by beautiful painting and patterns, as well as soft colors.
For the April workshop, we will provide “Kyo Yaki”, “Kiyomizu Yaki” as well as “Kyoto pottery” its beautiful painting and patterns and soft color combinations.

We will have many different types of pottery shards available other than those shown in the photos, so please choose your favorite pottery shards on the day!
In addition to the photos, we will have a wide variety of fragmented pieces of pottery available on the day of the workshop, so please choose your pieces preferred then!

You can choose your favorite accessories from ``earrings, earrings, brooches, rings, pendant tops, obi clasps, pony hooks, hair ties, tie pins, tuck pins, and cuff links.''

She started making handmade items in 2012, and in 2019 she learned Kintsugi in Kyoto and started making Kintsugi accessories on her own by applying the skill of restoring pottery.
Focusing on pottery that has inherited Japanese tradition, we purchase pottery that is no longer used as industrial waste from potteries and other places, and reborn it as accessories.

I am the founder of engrace, Kintsugi jewelry brand. I started crafting handmade items in 2012 and learned the art of Kintsugi in Kyoto in 2019.
I applied the techniques to my craft and began creating Kintsugi Jewelry through self-study.
