Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden and GNS's "Traveling Botanical Garden" is back after a two-year hiatus!

We propose a special summer where you can learn about diverse living things and the cycle of nature while enjoying yourself with all your senses, through video exhibits protecting endangered species, a rural landscape space in the courtyard, and a variety of Shop.

A botanical garden is coming to the city center. Please enjoy this special moment.

Exploring the workings of nature from two perspectives (Special Exhibition & Experience)

Special Exhibition: "Traveling Botanical Garden 2026 ~A Botanical Garden Comes to the City~"

■Period: July 1st (Tue) - September 30th (Wed)
■Venue: 4th floor "GALLERY, Courtyard"
■ Admission fee: Free

Experience the "species conservation" efforts protected by the botanical garden and the "satoyama ecosystem" thriving in the courtyard. Through videos of activities on cliffs and displays of familiar trees such as coffee and vanilla, we offer a special moment to comfortably learn about the beautiful and powerful workings of nature and its future.

 


Explore the microscopic world of carnivorous plants with botanical garden staff!

Join botanical garden staff and use a microscope to get a peek into the fascinating lives of carnivorous plants. This popular program is perfect for summer vacation research projects and will stimulate the intellectual curiosity of both children and adults.

Deputy Director Arahori of the botanical garden will give a direct lecture! Using the heart shape of palm leaves grown in the botanical garden, we will transform discarded materials into wonderful souvenirs. Experience making sustainable baskets that gently blend into everyday life.

We use a special drying method to preserve the beautiful flowers and plants from the botanical garden, then seal them in glass bottles. This Shop allows you to enjoy the vibrant colors of flowers and plants that have finished their original purpose, making them perfect for interior decoration.

 


Deeply understanding nature within the city (learning and strolling)

Mr. Miyata, the representative of "Gobai Midori," the professional company that created the iconic vertical garden at this facility, will provide direct commentary. This is a special tour where you can explore the rich green gradient that has appeared in the middle of the building complex and the ecosystem where native plant species thrive, together with an expert.

While learning about the ecosystem of tree nuts in a fun way, you can experience making one-of-a-kind accessories and key charms using various types of acorns provided by the botanical garden.
