■About Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Gardens

Japan's oldest public botanical garden, opened in 1924. It cultivates and displays approximately 12,000 species and 120,000 plants on a site of approximately 24 hectares (the size of six Koshien stadiums).
There are plenty of things to see, including the 200-meter-long "Campus Tree Line," the "Cherry Blossom Forest" where about 500 cherry trees of 180 varieties bloom in the spring, the "Nakaragi Forest" with its beautiful fresh greenery in early summer and autumn leaves in the fall, and one of Japan's largest observation greenhouses where you can get up close and personal with tropical plants from all over the world.
More than 200 exhibitions and seminars are held here each year, and it has been a place of relaxation and learning through plant appreciation for over a century.
