ARTISTS 'FAIR KYOTO was born in 2018 as an art fair in a new style in which artists themselves exhibit, plan and operate in total. This year, the third year, an exhibition has started at the gallery space on the fourth floor of GOOD NATURE STATION as one of the new venues for the satellite event "ARTISTS 'FAIR KYOTO 2020: BLOWBALL". "Wunderkammer (Wunderkammer / Marvel)" is a unique space created by a group of three female artists who continue to be active in Kansai, including the joint atelier "punto", the artist unit "By-products store", and Shiho Nakachi. Room)].
Foster an "art buying culture" and expand opportunities for artists to play active roles
"ARTISTS 'FAIR KYOTO", which started in 2018, was launched to further revitalize the Japanese art scene. In addition to exhibiting the works of seasonal artists active in Japan and abroad, other artists will pick up the emerging young artists who are leading the next scene and exhibit and sell the works together with other artists A feature not found in the fair. It is an interesting attempt of this art fair that famous artists and young artists will exhibit their works at the same time on the stage of modern architecture, which is an important cultural property in Kyoto, and the ruins of factories remaining in the city. The excitement of all artists competing for “fun” is also a highlight.
Another satellite event, ARTISTS 'FAIR KYOTO 2020: BLOWBALL, will be held with the aim of expanding the field of artists' activities. From late February to late March, nine art events are held at various venues in the city of Kyoto (the dates vary depending on the exhibition). The gallery on the 4th floor of GOOD NATURE STATION, which opened last December, is also one of the new venues.
What is being held here is "Wunderkammer". Wunderkammer is a space that gathered and exhibited rare things from around the world, which became popular in Europe around the 16th century. Its collections range from natural sciences, artworks, ornaments and religious relics and became the predecessor of the current museum. At the exhibition with such a title, you can enjoy collaboration by three artists.
Three sets of collaborations that can only be done here
First of all, seven female artists such as Rie Okamoto, Haruka Shima, Miyako Tenshi Ushi, Yuki Hasegawa, Rina Matsudaira, Saki Moriyama and Anna Yamanishi, who graduated from Kyoto University of the Arts, belong to a joint atelier `` punto Will exhibit and sell their works. A wide range of genres such as paintings and solids, as well as materials used in works, such as fresco, oil paint, rock paint, wood, lacquer, cloth, paper, etc. A work with a completely different personality has a magical appeal. When you look at their work, please pay attention to the material below the title.
The other group is the "by-products store", which sells "by-products" consisting of Yoshitaka Yazu, an artist and representative of the art hostel kumagusuku in Kyoto, and Takeshi Yamada, a representative of the free paper Shop Tadashiya. The by-products store considers the waste materials created in the process of producing works in the atelier of many artists in Kyoto as "by-products" of art, and creates a system of material circulation by selling again, giving new value. The target project. It was Mr. Yazu, a by-product store, who named punto, a former acquaintance at the exhibition, and thought of collaborating on the by-products of their work.
Yazu: "The concept of this GOOD NATURE STATION was overwhelmingly feminine, so if I had an exhibition here, I would think of a female writer and talked to punto. when a customer of women who visit here thought it would be what is art to buy for feel free to hand, had ended up was the accessories. so, we the same as the by-product production shop Kyoto is a City University of the Arts graduate of accessories writer Nakachi I asked Shihomi to make accessories using by-products, the first attempt to reinvent a by-product that was supposed to be abandoned as a new work by another writer. There may not be an answer to that question, but this time the collaboration of the three groups has created an I believe that Sesary could create new value. ''
"Circulating art" in which punto produces works, waste products are picked up by by-product shops, and turned into accessories by Shiho Nakachi. By looking at the accessories while watching the materials used in the work and looking at the accessories, the art perspective that thinks and confirms what accessories are made of by-products should be a very novel experience is.
In fact, there is still a lot of space in Japan in Asia, where art buying and selling is brisk. At this event, where the proposition is to revitalize the buying and selling of art, actually seeing and purchasing works will help young artists expand their creativity.
"Wunderkammer" was born from the GOOD NATURE STATION, which wants to take care of a system that circulates everything from things to consciousness to society. Artist talks will be held on February 22 (Sat) and March 1 (Sun) during the exhibition. By all means, what kind of things did the three artists create while creating the work, creating this amazing room? Listen to that raw voice.
Also, if you are not interested in art, please feel free to drop in and enjoy the sensibility of what you can receive from this mysterious circulating art.
