Kyoto Plants that grow wilderly in the city! Healing wall curtain created by "5 x green"

Scheduled to open in December this year GOOD NATURE HOTEL KYOTO . In the lobby lounge on the 4th floor, a spacious atrium courtyard will appear, and a green wall curtain full of walls that will wrap up visitors will be visible.

A wall curtain that brings healing from vision based on the hotel concept of "enjoy with the five senses". The wall greening project with us is “5 × Green (Goba Imidori),” a project group that works on urban greening and environmental conservation using the “Satoyama Unit” developed independently.

This time, I visited a gardening ground where plants used for wall greening had been raised in advance, and I received a representative from Ms. Miyata, who talked about the points of wall greening and the challenges that “5 × green” will tackle in our facility.

95 types of Kyoto Pick up plants that grow wild on

Heat island phenomenon that is losing its rich nature by urbanization and is accelerating. In addition, we put a stop to a little, and cherish the sense of the season in the city by increasing the green in the city "5 × green".

By creating the landscape of the Japanese Satoyama where many kinds of greens are mixed in the "Satoyama Unit" developed uniquely and combining the unit, not only our facilities but also the public areas of the city and commercial facilities etc. , Has realized a number of wall greening.

This time we GOOD NATURE STATION As a whole concept, GOOD NATURE In a place where you can enjoy it with your five senses. As the word “enjoyable with the five senses” indicates, the entrance is wrapped in the hotel's original scent, and the towels in the room are elaborately designed, such as being soft and comfortable. Among them, it was the wall greening of the courtyard that I thought of as content to have you enjoy visually.

Before we realized the realization of wall greening, we thought that we would like to "provide the wall greening that can be shown on the surface" in the courtyard. I thought about using nets and ropes at the conception stage, but it is difficult to say that it is a perfect "green surface" because there are gaps. What I met at that time was "5 x green" I was working on wall greening using "Satoyama Unit".

Miyata: "When I first talked about this project, GOOD NATURE The request from HOTEL KYOTO was "I want to develop green on the surface". Actually, I worked on the wall greening of a building in Omiya, Saitama Prefecture, and I was told that I could use it because I had an experience of growing plants and greening in a wide area several years after installation.

We specialize in inter-planting conventional vegetation, which is the foundation of regional ecosystems, in the Satoyama Unit and working on urban greening. By promoting greening with plants that grow naturally in that area, you will have more opportunities to see the appearance of insects and birds that inhabit the area, and you will feel the sense of locality and seasonality. It is one of the advantages that green grows naturally. "

At the time of wall greening this time, the plant used is 95 kinds. Ms. Miyata talked in detail about the selection of the kind of plant that seems to be huge.

Miyata: "It's all, Kyoto List of potential vegetation in the basin and Kyoto From the list of native species recommended by the City Greenery Association, GOOD NATURE STATION We picked up plants that could adapt to your environment. Potential vegetation is something like "If there is no human involvement, it will be the composition of such a plant as it is in nature."

Selecting a plant from there has made it possible to have a biological and cultural approach. I adopted Teika Kazura as the base plant of the Satoyama unit, but this plant blooms a lovely white flower in a vivid green and shows various expressions. In addition, the aroma is strong and excellent in healing effect. The arrangement will be placed in the courtyard of the hotel, so if it is only deciduous trees, it will become lonely in winter. As a countermeasure, we calculate the ratio of mixing of evergreen trees and deciduous trees.

I planted something taller behind the unit and a fluffy form in the front, and I valued the balance anyway. further, Kyoto There are a lot of plant motifs in Nishijin Ori and Kyo Yaki that take root in the land, so I chose the plants with inspiration. It is also announced in academic thesis that looking at natural greens also has the effect of reducing stress. In the ever-changing time, I think that the customers can feel a moment of peace by hitting the sun, blowing the wind, and smelling the green scent. "

in this way"GOOD NATURE Taking into consideration the environment and design of the HOTEL KYOTO's building, and other various conditions, it was possible to connect it to the realization of a city that is full of greenery, even in urban areas.

Approach to wall greening of "courtyard" with many difficulties

The stage for this wall greening is GOOD NATURE STATION On the fourth floor of GOOD NATURE It is an open-air courtyard starting from the lobby lounge of HOTEL KYOTO. Ms. Miyata's concern about this project was whether the sun was enough. Light, water and wind are important for the growth of plants. Although there were measures for water and wind, it was likely to be an important point for light.

For that purpose, the illuminance of a total of five locations on the installation floor is measured over four times, the vernal equinox, the summer solstice, the autumn equinox, and the winter solstice, and the illuminance data, the sunshine conditions of the floor, the floor characteristics, etc. It cleared by picking it up. Also, by introducing measures to compensate for the lack of illuminance with artificial lighting, you can also maintain the landscape.

Miyata: "The wall greening this time is Kyoto It was a challenge whether it could be solved technically properly when making the "face" of a plant together with how to take in the native species of Anyway, in order to make it a huge green wall, it is an absolute requirement to fix and process on the back side when combining Satoyama units.

When it comes out to the surface, it does not become a green side. Furthermore, due to the design of the hotel, it was not a flat wall, so it took half a year of trial and error to decide how to fix the unit while securing safety. At present, we are carrying out pre-cultivation of plants for setting, but we are working on various ideas, such as setting up a shading curtain so as not to place too much on summer sunshine even at the stage of cultivation. I'm trying to overcome this new challenge by repeating ingenuity in various phases. "
