Essence of design studded with GOOD NATURE HOTEL KYOTO

With the opening of hotels not only at Kyoto but also throughout Japan, it has been asked how to develop individuality as accommodation. GOOD NATURE HOTEL KYOTO has also spent time planning how to put the concept of “ GOOD NATURE ” into the design of guest rooms. Takashi Fujii, CEO of interior design designer farm DRiP, played a central role. We also design most of the 4th floor, including the reception and courtyard, including about 20 types of guest rooms. How was that design image shaped?

Takashi Fujii is engaged in the interior design of commercial facilities including hotels and educational and medical welfare facilities. After gaining experience at a major interior design company, he became independent in 2015 and established design farm DRiP. The current office is located in Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture, where nature is rich. As a result, I was involved in GOOD NATURE HOTEL KYOTO.

Fujii: "Actually, it took some time for the concept of"GOOD NATURE"to solidify, and in the early days, the idea of" enjoying "organic food was a bit thin. However, no matter how good it is, it will not last if it is too stoic, and it is not interesting. So, when thinking about the design, I first wrote "Yu" in hiragana and applied three kanji. The first is eternal "Yu". I wanted to create a design that would allow you to feel the long history of Kyoto and the slow flowing time. The second is “play”. Organics and bios were not too stoic, but I wanted to be playful. The third is "tied" with the meaning of connecting people to people or people to things. This time it was just a new attempt. ''

Embody "Essence of Kyoto"

Based on these ideas, while embodying the design, Fujii was conscious of the keyword "Essence of Kyoto". This is the director who was responsible for the concept makeup of the entire hotel Junya Akiyama This is a direction that came out of discussions with Mr. and the hotel preparation members. Kyoto even a hotel, net nor Japanese style, not a Western-style to say whether, Kyoto specific vaguely feeling is design the atmosphere as essence. He said that he had been working on the design and selection of materials while struggling with the adjustment.

Fujii: "In addition to using Japanese paper for the wall material, the floor material used is dare to have knots and grain. In purely Japanese architecture, simple wood grain such as cedar and cypress are usually used. I often choose things, but here I wanted you to feel the feeling of nature or the breath of life. Moreover, I performed a process called wiping, deepened the groove in the grain of wood, washed it with white paint, and dyed it This gives contrast and raises the grain of wood, and what we call the "wet edge", each room is free to carry your luggage such as tablets and books. There is a space that can be put in. It does not prescribe how to use it, and it is like an image on the veranda. That's how we incorporate the elements of Japanese architecture. ''

Nature painting on the wall

Essence of Kyoto is scattered everywhere according to the size and type of room, such as tiles with fluctuating surfaces and rattan headboards. The large sofas in each room are designed to make the hotel feel like a Japanese style of sitting on the floor and relaxing. And another, GOOD NATURE HOTEL KYOTO The point of is the picture drawn on the wall.

Developed by Mr. Fujii, `` I think it would be nice if you could draw like a fusuma picture in a temple, '' a painter who draws fusuma pictures and murals using homemade paint with earth and stone. This is the work of Yuki Fukui. Paintings of Japanese-style flowers and trees, such as cherry blossoms and pine trees, provide comfort in the room. These are born from nature, drawn with homemade paints made of earth and stone. At the same time as feeling "Essence of Kyoto", it also embodies the concept of "GOOD NATURE".

While sitting in nature

Mr. Fujii, who has a small field near his office, has to go to the field every morning to start work. He says that he feels this connection to life in this series of designs.

Fujii: "There was no place to go for lunch around the former office, and all the staff were eating what I bought at a convenience store in front of the station." It's a waste of a place with such a great deal of nature. " After moving to my current office, the staff began to cook and eat together using pesticide-free vegetables grown in the fields. So, while working on this project and thinking about what is “ GOOD NATURE ”, I thought it was just what our office is doing. That kind of influence on the design as well, and the color tone of the material used may be close to that in the natural world, so it may be where it is connected. I think that the design that can be exhibited because it is in nature is perfect for this hotel. ''
